Introduction
Wireless
Applications and Consulting Services, LLC (WACS) provides consultancy
to major utility companies in USA. Objective of this project was to create
a re-usable solution to provide specialized applications to leverage Automated
Meter Reading (AMR) data in electric, gas and water utilities.
We have been
engaged for providing technology solution comprising of system design,
development and deployment.
Application
Brief
This is a
data warehousing cum transaction processing application. The application
receives XML/Flat files of meter readings and master data from designated
gateways. The process daemon locates files and runs specified processes
to classify meter readings into Good, Stale, Incomplete, Partial, etc.
Several other processes are run in sequence to create estimated readings
for Stale, Incomplete and Partial reads and generate bills and related
reports. The application needs to process about 50 million records for
2 million customers everyday.
WACS DataStore
project is expected to maintain records pertaining to energy consumption
of electric, gas, steam and water for upto 2 million consumers for a period
of 5 years. It would also allow the utility service providers and the
consumers to analyze this data from various dimensions, thus allowing
the user to manage energy requirements and consumption. The project comprise
the development of the following key software components / modules:
- Data
Store Schema and Supporting Software, which comprises of Oracle 8.1.7
based large data store with flexible configurable gateways for importing
data.
- Network
Performance Application, comprises of estimation and editing routines
for manipulating daily data and specialized summary reporting and statistical
analysis.
- Individual
Energy Management Application, comprises of a web based application
for end-users to register themselves, register their end points and
view data - historical and statistical pertinent to their own accounts.
